Cloud Service Brokerage

Cloud Service Brokerage (CSB) is the new business model buzz word defined by Gartner Group.

It is the integration solution which they offer any mix of the technologies, products, services, business processes and people via cloud computing platform.

In 80's, Dell started the new business for PCs as Built-to-Order to make users easy to buy pre-configured system to use.

Today, SaaS and other cloud computing is still Need-to-Build, not Read-to-Use by customers, needless to say for B2C.  So, it is difficult for SMEs to enjoy cloud computing benefits unless they have some resources to integrate solutions among SaaS, PaaS and/or IaaS.

I do believe that CSB business model will be more popular to expand cloud computing business solution from 2015 more and more.

Introducing Amazon Echo - IoT Part 4

This is one of good examples of IoT (Internet of Things).  To enable this technology work, the cloud service is working in backend.

This tells why Apple also came to Seattle to develop their cloud technology?  Seattle will be the place of the cloud computing development in the world; there are Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Facebook, HP and now Apple.

The Key of IoT Part 3

Warm-hearted service is required for IoT.  It is what the Japanese are good at, isn’t it?

That is, Omotenashi (warm hospitality). Omotenashi is not only for the tourism industry.

The collaboration between digital technology and analog Omotenashi makes the IoT business success.

Intuitional user interface is not a technology, but it can be developed with consideration of an user expectation and behavior as well as society where we live.

It is our EnLinx Partner’s mission; Happy and Happy.

Intel NII and Tesla Autopilot = JUI

I had talked about the user interface roadmap from GUI, VUI and JUI in the past.  JUI stands for Joyful User Interface and it would be based on the universal language; e.g. gesture motion.

Intel refers JUI as NII; Natural, Intuitive and Immersive and they announced RealSense as its technology platform.

Now, Tesla announced Autopilot for their electric cars.

Time for JUI...

It is time for E-commerce home page to change its design; less text with more photos and video with new User Interface.

The Key of IoT Part 2

Another example is BALMUDA challenge.

BTW, I have been wondering why there are no home appliance in the USA by made in Japan although I can find made in Korea.  The Japanese products are much better because of ecology, quite and etc.  They can produce them in the USA like automobile.  It dos not have to be made in Japan but could be developed by the Japanese companies. Adding net service, it will create a new market.  Here in the USA, air conditions are already connected into internet.

If they think the home appliances are no longer products for the Japanese companies to make since there are no special technologies required, it is wrong.

You know ex-Sanyo products are now sold very well in Asia with the marketing efforts after Haier acquired.

Needless to say, Dyson products prove it as well.

How to Start a Startup - Standford Univ. Lecture 1

You can review what you are doing.

The Key of IoT Part 1 - IoTの鍵 Part 1

I think that IoT can be defined as seamless and intuitional product and service without thinking of internet and PC.

What makes it possible?  It is UI (User Interface).

I talked about JUI (Joyful User Interface) before.  It is the development from GUI(Graphic User Interface) and VUI(Voice User Interface).

IoT business is not beyond PC environment but daily products and service near you at home and in the street.  For instance, it is a traffic information panel at the platform of NYC subway.  In Japan, they have LED information panel for long time but it is uni-directional communication vs. NYC subway is bi-directional.  There are many advertisement panels at the Japanese railroads and subways.  They can create a new service with digital signage and smartphone collaboration.

Evernote and the 100-Year-Old Startup

More than 80% of 100-year-old companies in the world is the Japanese companies.

Dynamic change gives some refresh and momentum in the society but it is also important to inherit the mission and traditions.

I am now personally fan of the Japanese Traditional Crafts to support introducing some of them outside of Japan; mainly the current Japanese swords, not antique ones so that this culture and work will be passed onto the next generation.

Working on Wado Website and soon, I hope to start selling them to support the current swordsmith and related smith life and work.

Wearable Technology

With sensor technologies, IT starts giving us more variety of solutions.  Wearable technology is one of them.

There is a rumor of Apple iWatch launch coming on September 9.
I reported Oculus M&A by Facebook before as one of edutainment market solution.

The wearable technology seems to be coming into healthcare industry solutions, not only human being but also other animals.

Here is the conference in Santa Clara, CA coming up this November 19-24.

Wearable Technology USA 2014

What solution do you want?

The wearable IT technologies will collaborate with gadget, fashion, healthcare, entertainment, construction, robot and etc. etc.

Forget what you know: Jacob Barnett at TEDxTeen

I think it is important to have a habit to think, not to react.

The Japanese education system demands to remember.

I like the history.  But it is not interesting for me to remember what and when happened, but it is very interesting why and how it happened.

Sometimes, it is good not to think; that is, Zen meditation and it brings an intuition.

I am a believer of an intuition.  You can brush up your intuition if you experience and think through them, but not just to remember.

PC and IT

Personal Computer (PC) was an independent machine (device) in early 80's.  With internet connection, PC has become a concierge.

Information Technology (IT) was an infrastructure technology but it has been becoming culture with application and service development through internet.

It is making a lot of impact on our way of life; that is, create and/or change our culture.

Time for us to consider what / how we use these technologies and devices for our happy life.

Time:  13:00 - 16:00
Admission : Free

Place:  Seattle University, CASEY COMMONS (Casey Building top floor)
             http://www.seattleu.edu/maps/

Exhibition:
·       The Process of making Japanese swords
·       Books on Japanese swords by Yoshindo Yoshihara
·       Urushi (Japanese lacquerware ) by Heiando America
·       Yukata Show at Kobe Sorakuen Garden by Kimono Art

Demonstration:
Tsuchi Oki to make Hamon by Yoshindo Yoshihara

About Yoshindo Yoshihara
Yoshindo Yoshihara works in Tokyo and has been named an Important Cultural Property of the city and prefecture of Tokyo; he is a mukansa swordsmith in Japan.

The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, as well as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City have purchased his Japanese swords for their exhibition.

He dedicated many swords to the Ise Shrine and other places in Japan.

About Yamada Heiando
Yamada Heiando cherishes the rich tradition of Urushi (Japanese lacquerware) as well as the skills and universal aesthetic sensibility that he has inherited from traditional artisans. He also expands them to include the design of new products that capture the values of contemporary life.  Heiando opened the US office; Heiando America, in Seattle for the overseas business in 2013.

Yamada Heiando is a purveyor of tableware to the Japanese Imperial Household and his products feature regularly in Japans international embassies.

Japan is facing a crisis on two fronts. Some of its traditional crafts are disappearing because the artisans do not have successors and because of shifting life styles, the demand for traditional artisanal wares is dramatically shrinking in the Japanese market.

We would like to introduce these Japanese traditional crafts to an overseas market in order to support these craft-persons in the hope that they can pass on their traditions to future generations.

We are looking forward to seeing you at this event.

Robotics - SoftBank Pepper & Cockcroach

On June 5, SoftBank announced their new business segment; that is, robotics.

They acquired Sprint here in the US and it looks like that they expand more for smartphone business.

It is a good surprise that Mr. Son showed the totally different business direction from the current smartphone business.  He is one of really Entrepreneurs.

On the other hand, I found Robotics at todays's TED.  It is interesting to find that they adapted the Japanese ORIGAMI methodology in their design.

Min. wage $15/hour in Seattle from April 1, 2015

What do you think?

I am afraid that many small business in Seattle will be out of business.

Seattle Min. Wage $15/Hour

Apple - Beats 買収

Apple is closing $3.2 billion acquisition of Beats Electronics.  And it is surprise that Apple keeps Beats brand, not to change to Apple.

Beats has not only Beats by Dr. Dre but also Beats Music.
iTune store is so popular but its sales is not growing but Spotify has become so popular so as Beats Music.

If it was Microsoft, they would have tried to kill any competitors, not to merge nor not to keep its brand and business.

Why...?  You may find some answer in the following ABC News memo.

I used UBER -

Do you know UBER? It is a new taxi pickup service with GPS.

I just used this service from home to the airport.  In Seattle area, this service started about a year ago and a driver told me that approximate 1,000 cars were available.

It is so simple.

After you register yourself in UBER website, you just call them from your smartphone.  Actually, not a voice call but just select icon a couple of times.

Then, they respond how many minutes they will take coming to pick you up.

After you arrive at your destination, you do not need any payment.  Just simply get off from a cab and ready to go.  A driver shows a fare and its receipt will be emailed to you.  It will even show a driving route and you can confirm if a driver did not cheat you.

Other similar services are available.  UBER is the actually marketing company which does not have any asset like cars and hire drives.

Information Technology will make / create more new business like this.

Footnote:
On the way to the airport, I asked him "How could you be a UBER driver?"

1) Examination
There are about 40 questions which they must be familiar with their local area to drive around.

2) Background Check
Criminal record, a car accident, speeding tickets and etc.

3) Car Evaluation
Then, they physically check a driver's car.

2.  What’s new in Seattle?(著者のアメリカ生活便り)
3. Pon Pon
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

2. What’s new in Seattle?

3. Pon Pon

Quite a job

I found the top 4 reasons why people leave their jobs according to Forbes and a study by Accenture posted by Derek Brown in LinkeIn as follows;
  1. Lack of Recognition            43%
  2. Negative internal politics    35%
  3. They don't like their boss    31%
  4. They don't feel empowered 31%
I do believe that the half of management job is HCR(Human Capital Relationship).  If her/his staff enjoy their jobs and accomplish their roles and responsibilities, a management job will be much easier.

But it is not so simple.

Indeed, the company culture is one of the keys just like a school color.

Take it easy!
